#bloggergate: My thoughts

#bloggergate: My thoughts

Hi All

I’ve been away from here for a while due to job hunting (stressful) and trying to get out and see New York. But, there has been a story in the news over the last week and a half that has sparked a lot of debate, and it’s something I’ve been following, so I thought I’d write about it for today’s post. I’m talking of course about the #bloggergate scandal involving the White Moose Café and the Vlogger Elle Darby. It’s sparked quite a bit of backlash toward both sides online, but if you haven’t heard about it, here’s a little summary.

3 on-the-go sweet tooth satisfiers in New York City

3 on-the-go sweet tooth satisfiers in New York City

Hi all,

It’s hard to believe, but I’m already into my second week here in New York City. I remember a few months back, I was counting down the days and thinking the day I got on the plane to come here would never arrive. Crazy how things can change so quickly without you even having a chance to notice it.

As you will know if you’ve been following along here on the blog, I moved over here with my brother. We’ve been busy sending out emails and chasing up leads to try and find jobs in our fields (mine being journalism, his being urban planning) here as quick as we can, and that is one thing that is always going to be a concern until we get it sorted. But hopefully there is something just around the corner. We are incredibly lucky in that we have family here that we can stay with. I had huge respect for people that came here with nobody they could call on before, but that level of respect has grown even more now. I can only imagine how much harder it is coming over from Ireland, and trying to find a job and a roof over your head at the same time.

My first few days in New York

My first few days in New York

Hi everyone

As this is my first post of 2018, I’d first like to wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope it’s a healthy and productive one for all of you.

As some of you might know from following along here on the blog and on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), I made the move to New York City on December 30th. I’d been talking about doing it for ages, and I’m delighted that I’m finally here (despite it being quite a surreal experience at the moment).

I’ve already fallen in love with the city. There is just something about it that you can’t quite put your finger on, but it’s magical. Especially seeing as I got here in the middle of the New Year celebrations, so there is a definite air of positivity with people throwing themselves into their new year resolutions and making plans.

9 actors for the MCU X-Men & 4 for Fantastic Four!

9 actors for the MCU X-Men & 4 for Fantastic Four!

Well, after years of rumours, speculation and hoping, it has been confirmed this week that the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four film franchises are reverting to Marvel. Following a deal between Disney (Marvel’s parent company) and 21st Century Fox – reported to be worth a whopping $52M – a number of TV and film properties will now be under the mouse house’s control.

This means the two popular franchises can now be integrated into the hugely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, a move that superhero fans have been hoping would happen for years, and one that will surely take the franchise to new, even more successful heights.
